This front yard design is a fusion of styles. Though the architecture of this Georgian style house is quite traditional, the owners preferred a more contemporary design aesthetic. Using modern materials like corten steel and aerosan (a flat sawn Wiarton flagstone) gave it a very contemporary look while the layout maintains the classic symmetry of the house. The soft flowing Deschampsia grass (Deschampsia cespitosa) creates a stark contrast to the crisp lines of the steps and retaining walls. Beds with a mixture of Dwarf fountain grass (Pennisetum hameln) and Knautia create a welcoming entrance from the sidewalk while the eight paper bark maples (Acer griseum) will eventually grow to create two mass canopies for shade and a bit of extra privacy from the street.
